Outside drains

Hi!
A couple of months ago I noticed my outside drain was blocked as water was draining slowly from the kitchen. I sacrificed a mop head an plunged the debris free....mostly stuff from the dishwasher, small bits of food etc.

Now my water is flowing freely, but there is a constant pool of water sitting just below the drain cover. Is this normal? Or does my drain need snaked out?

Get yourself a set of rods ( £20 max) from local hardware store. Use the screw attachment and feed it through the drain, turn clockwise only or it will unscrew itself and that should clear any gunk. Get yourself some caustic soda ( again hardware store or it's about 3x as much in B&Q or Homebase) and follow instructions for use to the letter. Pour into all the drains. Repeat this every few months.

you probably mean a yard gulley.

It has a water-trap in in, same as a sink, which is (supposed to be) filled with water, same as the trap in a sink or a WC.

Washing Soda crystals are much less dangerous and do not eat holes in your skin, clothes and eyeballs.

If your dishwasher filters are clean and undamaged, nothing much should go down its waste pipe

Never pour fat, oil or grease down the sink, or into the dihwasher. Pour fat into a can or wipe it out with kitchen roll and bin it or use it for lighting the barbie.

I don't pour straight oil or fat down the sink. Many thanks for the replys. Sounds like its meant to have water in it then! Few! How this hasnt frozen though is amazing!
