Also,....I have just thought, last year we had a boiler scare and it was turned off for a few days, again when the cold weather snapped.

I was told that our immersion heater is not wired up to the electrics, the wires are there but we need something.....Confused to connect it.

I know its impossible to tell what i need as I cant even describe it , however....any ideas on what it would cost to get someone out to hook it up in case the boiler does go again?

Many thanks!

ask around for a reputable local electrician. Don't use yellow pages or a door to door advertiser. Definitely don't use a recommendation website, they are mostly paid by the advertisers traders and the recommendations may be written by them as well.

First thing to ask when phoning an electrician "which Competent Person Scheme are you in?" Write down the answer so you can check on their website.

Might cost £50 or £250 depending what needs to be done. What sort of idiot installs an immersion heater and a circuit but doesn't connect it? If the immersion heater itself is old and faulty, try to find an old plumber to remove it. It will probably be seized in place and an inexperienced person may damage the cylinder getting it out.
