I have a massive pine mirror to paint
I have varoius Annie Sloan paints that I can mix.
The rest of the room is mainly whites/creams
I want this mirror to standout but not garish iykwim
any ideas?

I'd personally go for the same white as you have everything else in. Although i have a thing about all woodwork having the same colour/finish.

I would paint it the same colour as the wall. The minimalist option.

i'd go for a chalky light grey (dove) if you want it to stand out..that against the light blue (is it like the colour of the sky?) would look lovely.

all you need to do though is get some odd bits of wood, even paper and paint it the colours you like then stick it on/hold it up to the wall to see what looks best

Either chalky/matt white or ivory or pale grey. I've done two old pine mirrors in my bedroom with Dulux Timeless eggshell against pale blue walls and they look lovely.

it's starlings egg looks more blue in real life

grey is a good idea

gold?

ineedanexcuse · 17/11/2013 23:22

Does it have to be painted? I love a good paint finish but sometimes its just not necessary.I like the look of wood against blue background.

ggirl · 17/11/2013 23:24

hmmm yes gold would look good against the blue
what gold paint or gold leaf stuff?

another thought was doing a craqeleure effect

gold wood wld look awful- never paint wood gold or silver...looking at your colour swatch, grey may not go with that...

i second eggshell or just gently sand the frame for a distressed, natural finish and don't paint..you could always hang necklace/heart/ribbon off the edges as well to draw attention to it - make it a real focal point...i have a silver heart made out of little bells hanging from a white ribbon on my mirror - sounds awful but looks very pretty...

ggirl · 17/11/2013 23:51

thanks , will prob go for a cream as already have that colour

can always paint over it

Metallic silver - if you want to get a bit arty, then glue on some string scrolls or other patterns that suit your decor & paint over the whole thing in silver

ggirl · 18/11/2013 00:08

think i'll try for this sort of finish

White or silver- cool neutral colours.
