Hi, we are doing the kitchen in a flat & it doesn't make sense to go over board on costs (as much as I love mark Wilkinson, kit stone etc). We will of course look at magnet, howdens etc, but I really love the look of painted shaker style kitchens. Have read positive & negative reviews of the above mentioned kitchen makers, but what I would love to know before traipsing all over the country..... is how much???

So, if not too prying, what did you have done & how much did it cost? Any reviews also helpful?

We just bought a bargain one from a lovely guy called Warwick at Wells Reclamation Yard in Somerset. We have a big kitchen and it came to £3k! The units are primed ready for you to paint

It varies a lot depending on how much you do yourself. I had a chipboard kitchen from DIY kitchens, I painted the doors plus a few other bits of furniture, I think the cabinets came to about £2.5k all in. That's the bargain basement end of the spectrum though. My friend had a painted kitchen from Devol and I gather it was about £12k, all fitted and painted.

I know it is not what you asked but have you considered ex-display?

No I hadn't Pinkje. Good tip, my frugal husband will love that idea. Do you just try the usual suspects....Magnet, Howdens etc?

I would look on the more upmarket ones... in Scotland Ashley Ann have a few. Or failing that ebay.

Levick Jorgensen made my kitchen. It was not a cheap option but was it value for money..an overwhelming yes yes yes. If you want a genuine timber kitchen which is handmade..(I saw mine in production..guys in aprons and good to see a lady artist painting my kitchen there)..they are brilliant. My kitchen was installed 5 years ago and still looks and feels fantastic. I do wish I'd chosen a lighter Granite top though. The shiny black does need constant polishing. They did warn me though! Cost was 30,000.
