Painting internal plastic windowsill - a good idea?

My house used to be rented, and everything in it is in a right state!

My front room has a HORRIBLE, scratched and dented plastic windowsill. I hate it! However, I'm not able to go to the expense of replacing the window just yet. I was wondering whether I could give it a quick coat of UPVC primer, then paint it with a top coat to match the interior woodwork? But I'm worried about it scratching and looking terrible (I have two naughty cats, who like to sit on it).

Has anyone else done this? Any tips/advice?

You can buy new windowboards.

I can?! That sounds ideall!

How do I fit them? I have catastrophic visions of trying to remove the interior sill and having the whole window fall out!

I've never done it, I don't like plastic windows. But like everything, it is sure to be easy when you know how. wooden ones are very easy. Ask on here

or you could ask the makers

or fit wooden or MDF ones which may be cheaper from any diy shed or timberyard
