Room dividing.

Any tips for a non-permanent but reasonably sturdy room division?

I have 10 year old DD and 5 year old DS2 sharing. It's not ideal, but DS1 has ASD and needs his own space. I've done a temporary divide with furniture, but it's far from perfect.

The only idea I have is Expedit from IKEA, but was hoping for some creative (cheap) ideas!

Thanks for any replies Smile Smile

Your DD is probably just as is need of her own space too.

Is a room divider the only option?

We have a similar problem. 3 bedrooms, 2 DSs & 1 DD. DS1 has ASD and cannot share.

With us though, DS2 has his own room & the largest room is divided into our bedroom & DD's bedroom.

It is divided by tall wardrobes at the moment, which works well as DD is not very old. We will have to think of something better in the future though!

I've just had a look at Expedit - the main problem I could see is that each DC can still see the other through the holes!

The holes will be full of stuff!

Can't afford to move atm, hope to in a year or so. DS2 is very good about not going into DD's area though.

The boys can't share, DS1 sleeps badly and gets very angry with chatter etc.His behaviour has improved exponetially since we dis this!
There are two rooms downstairs, but as the kitchen is too small for fridge etc, it's all in the dining room!

you can get screens fairly cheaply from eBay or ikea but I reckon expedit will probably be a more effective barrier and who doesn't need more storage! good luck

Attaching a blind to the ceiling will give a divider that can even be secured to the floor too - just order a long one !!

If you get soft board cut to the size of the expidits no one will be able to look through and the dcs will have a pin board to personalise. You can paint the soft board or cover it with fabric.
