Bizarre Carpet Fitting Question!

How are stair carpets attached to the stairs?

Are they only attached to the treads or are they also attached to the back plank - the vertical bit?

Yes they are also stretched up the back bit. I'm not sure how they do it, I assume they use the same stuff that holds it to the floor, those strips of metal with the sharp teeth.

RandomMess · 11/11/2013 21:24

Grrr, that was the wrong answer Wink

Okay, back to the drawing board!

Ours has stair rods holding the carpet in place. Does that help?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 11/11/2013 21:30

Well what answer did you want? Be specific! Grin

RandomMess · 11/11/2013 21:31

We have an open stair case, I wanted to carpet it without having to fill in the spaces between the treads...

I've seen open staircases where the carpet is wrapped around individual stairs. Don't know how it's attached though.

2kidsintow · 11/11/2013 21:36

Ours is held in place with gripper rods.

EdieBlizzard · 11/11/2013 21:37

Don't panic - we had an open carpeted staircase once in a property so it obviously can be done! I can't remember much about it - google 'Open Plan stairs Carpet Fitting - YouTube'

RandomMess · 11/11/2013 21:39

Can't so the carpet wrap thing has to look like a normal staircase at the end Grin.

Will go google...

Sad nothing on you tube, guess I will just see if I can get a chippy to fill in the stairs somehow - you can't access behind them anymore...

I have a carpetted open tread staircase! The carpet (and underlay) is wrapped all the way around. Glued on each side and stapled underneath.

RandomMess · 11/11/2013 22:03

We can't/don't want to do that - too complicated to explain.

They done this today on an open staircase on 60 minute makeover with Peter Andre, don't ask me why I was watching it Shock

Maybe YouTube it I'm sure your find it as Pete was on it.

RandomMess · 11/11/2013 23:02

If it works out ridiculously expensive it may just be cheaper to buy a new staircase Confused
