Hi I'm buying a house with one of these it needs "over hauling" a few slates replaced, demossing, new flashing in a couple of windows and new concrete around chimney and one valley. The surveyor said £1000 plus scaffolding a highly recommended local builder has just looked at it and turned it into a huge job lots of sharp intakes of breath and scared the life of me I'm thinking of pulling out of the sale.
Has anyone had this done? It's a small but very old terraced cottage.

It is more specialised but if lots of the area has these roofs, then it shouldn't be a problem. I'd get another quote if I were you- they might be telling the truth, or might be wanting extra work. If it does need more work than the surveyor thinks, you could ask the vendors to pay, or reduce the purchase price?
