Our local builder/joiner has quoted £850 for a new upvc front door including fitting and taking away waste. Dh quibbling about the cost but for ease and goodwill i am inclined to just go for it. Dh has no diy skills so even if we buy one we need to pay someone to fit it. What do you think?

We are looking into new front doors at the moment. We are paying £1,000 inc fitting for a composite so I'd say £850 is high for UPVC.

The UPVC doors have tended to be around £650 / £750 in the places we've looked.

That said I guess it depends on what 'door furniture' you've gone for and whether it's a standard size.

Where is your builder sourcing it from?

ours was £380 for a back door and would have been £400 for front- standard size with door furniture and fitting

Hi thanks, ours needs to be rosewood with two glass panels, chrome door furniture. I've looked online and have seen lower priced ones but not from local companies and not including fitting, our builder is sourcing from a local firm and says he is only charging for fitting rather than making a profit on the actual door. I think I'll ring a couple more firms just to get some more comparisons. Thanks.

Your builder has actually given a good price in my opinion -especially as it includes installation and taking away the old door / rubbish !
