Hope this link works.

I've bought johnstones moonlit sky and while it looked good in the shop it looks 'cold' now im at home. I havent opened the pot yet and im thinking i'll return it but im starting to wonder if i wont be able to get a grey that doesnt look cold against that wallpaper.

Any recomendations would be much appreciated.

WEll, the wallpaper does have a very wintry pallette so I'm guessing you will want a light silvery grey and so, depending on the quality of light and the other furniture in the room, it could look cold. Then again, it could look fresh. There are lots of warm greys (Johnstone's Chapel Stone is a good example) but I'm not sure that they would tone with that wallpaper that well.

If you have your heart set on that paper and grey together, you can warm a room up with lots of textured fabric (eg tweed style or coarse wool chair coverings/sheepskin rug/velvet cushions or curtains etc).

the paper is already up Grin and yes it was lovely and fresh in the summer. I have the curtains and soft furnishings all in aswell. lots of throws and variations in texture. the paint is the last job on the list and I've put it off this long for fear of getting it wrong but it needs done. the walls are magnolia atm and it just looks wrong. I don't necessarily have my heart set on grey. do you think something else would look better? thanks for your comments btw.

It's hard to say without knowing what your furniture and throws are like. I do think most shades would be an improvement on magnolia though with that paper Grin. Farrow and Ball alert: have you thought about something along the lines of Borrowed Light or Light Blue? Or you could go much darker with with Ink?

lalalonglegs · 04/11/2013 23:02

Sorry, that last link should have said Squid Ink.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 04/11/2013 23:22

thanks for those links. I think the squid ink is too dark but the farrow and ball blues were good.

the suite is a horrible magnolia leather 3 piece which is the reason for all the throws and it's being sold when I get round to it for something, wait for it...grey. Grin throws are a mix of grey and the pale blue. knits and fleeces.

I think the grey will be ok if I get the right shade but i'm going to have to get a few friends in to give me in the flesh opinions as I just don't trust my own judgement on it.

Actually, I think the greys in there have a sort of taupey quality, which should balance out the cooler tones. The difficulty there is treading the line between warm grey and beige, and really you can only judge that in the room itself. Have a look at fired earth's granite and oak apple. Also dulux potters clay and potters wheel (one is mousey grey, the other purer grey, and I can't remember which!)

It looks nice. I put yellow with grey in my front room it looks warmer with the yellow .

Try Crown Cloud Burst it is lovely
