Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion vs standard Dulux vinyl matt emsulsion

Hello all,

Wonder if you can help me. I am about to start decorating my daughters bedroom. We have found a colour we like in the Farrow and Ball range, and another very similar colour from Dulux. I have been trying to research the sheen levels of the different paints. I have decided to avoid the F & B estate emulsion for the practical reason of keeping the paint finish clean with children and pets. I know that the F & B Modern Emulsion has a sheen level of 7% but I was wondering how this compared to standard Dulux vinyl matt emulsion, or Dulux Endurance matt emulsion. I can,t seem to find out the exact sheen levels of Dulux paint anywhere. If anybody knows this, or has any experience in using these different paints, I would be very grateful for their advice. Many Thanks.

Dulux Endurance or Diamond Matt as us gentlemen of the trade know it is Matt therefore low sheen and it's wipeable. Go for that.

We have both in our house and unfortunately the diamond matt is way more matt that the modern emulsion. Am a bit pissed off about this as we chose f&b for the lounge which is the room we wanted to look the smartest! It's got a fairly obvious sheen but more so wen it's dark and the lights are reflecting on it.

If you EMail Dulux via their website they'll give you the percentage sheens of all their paints/finishes. HTH.

Can I hijack for a second and ask David if the Endurance paint is any different sheen-wise than the standard matt pain by Dulux? I've recently painted a lounge in Egyptian Cotton and would like to touch up a few areas but Homebase tell me it's now only available in their endurance range? Thanks!

Thanks for your replies everyone. bimbabirba ,if Dulux have discontinued Egyptian Cotton in their standard range, you can go to where they mix up their tailor made colour in Homebase or B & Q and ask them to mix it up for you in the standard vinyl matt finish you require. I think it may cost a bit more than buying ready mixed colours though.
Sleepcrisis, thanks for the info about the F & B modern emulsion being more sheeny than the Dulux endurance/diamond matt. Just what I wanted to know.
David and RatherNot. The endurance paint sounds good. May use it but I will definitely e - mail Dulux about the sheen levels of their paint. Hadn,t thought to do that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Can anybody out their comment on the difference between the sheen levels of the Dulux endurance compared to the standard Dulux vinyl matt.?

I have Dulux Diamond Matt throughout my house, and I have to say, I have been really impressed with it. It is totally wipe able and really easy to keep looking pristine. I can't comment on the comparison to standard matt, but ours doesn't seem to have any discernible sheen at all.

loraflora · 03/11/2013 17:53

I used Endurance recently on the non tiled bits of my kitchen and part of my home office, and didn't really notice any sheen either. I wouldn't bother with standard matt again.

spotty26 · 04/11/2013 13:57

Just remember if a big project Endurance is quite a bit more per litre than vinyl Matt I recall.

MoominMammasHandbag · 04/11/2013 15:21

I imagine it will keep it's looks longer though, fine if you are someone who doesn't redecorate to keep up with colour trends.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2013 15:24

How much more does F&B cost than Dulux etc? I've seen a colour I like (pigeon, bloody daft name) but sure the other brands will have similar.

Is it worth the extra?
