Plumber or heating recommendations in South West London?

I'm sorry to be raiding everyone's address books all the time.

I have a very temperamental boiler and need to get it serviced before winter sets in. Also need a quote for replacement, as I'm going to put in a whole new system including radiators.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Please do not suggest Pimlico Plumbers, Aspect Maintenance, or Atlantic Plumbing, as the whole of SW London is full of horror stories about them.

1st advanced maintenance (Hampton based I think) have been doing ours for 2 houses now. Definitely recommended!

Charles Grey in Richmond is good, you should find him on google

Thank you all. So, so much. Thanks Cake Wine

If it all goes well I will feed back.

I so wish Mumsnet would launch a properly verified recommendations website. Mybuilder, Rated People and all that are such a joke whilst Mumsnet PMs have been the most amazing source of information. You are all so amazing and so kind.

We've used Fullers in Epsom for the last few years and found them good.

Gosh, I'd totally forgotten about this thread and never updated it as promised, sorry Blush.

In fact someone very kind PM'd me the details for Fuller Heating and they're the people I used. Liked them very much and would definitely use them again - so thank you for the recommendation.

I was perhaps a bit unkind about Pimlico Plumbers. They are expensive but they're also the only people who will come out the same day. I phoned them in desperation in the middle of January and they got the boiler sorted within a day.

I have heard terrible stories about Atlantic Plumbing since I posted my dislike of them. Two friends of mine have reported them to Gas Safe Shock.

I found this thread whilst doing a search on Google (although I’m an established MNer on other threads).

Would just like to say how much I would welcome the OP’s suggestion that MN launch its own fully vetted service for tradesmen.

There is such a transient population in this area and so many of us don’t have the community ties which winkle out bad tradespeople.

Both Aspect and Pimlico use self-employed contractors (there’s an ongoing court case about this). Anything goes wrong, the liability is with the tradie, not the company. Not worth the premium, especially as so many negative reviews.

I know someone who was totally trusting of Atlantic mentioned above (and still very big in WSW London) used them for years etc. Turned out they were recommending loads of unnecessary work saying it was unsafe etc. Ended up in court and my friend won in 2 minutes. The kicker - they’re actually recommended by Which? Trusted Tradesmen!

I have used Fuller Heating myself and found them excellent but they don’t provide emergency cover. Which is pretty bloody useless when that’s when you’re most likely to need a boilerman!
