We have accepted an offer on our house today and need to find a solicitor. The EA have recommended one that I have just spoken to and charge £684 total (no extra costs). Is this a good quote?? Never sold before so feel totally ignorant!!
Going to call round a few others now ...

We're paying £425 plus VAT to sell if that helps?

Thank you that's useful! I've just had a quote similar to yours from a local firm too. The higher one has a 'no move, no fee' policy though, so if the sale were to fall through there'd be no charge. Not sure if that's worth paying that bit extra for?!

I'd try and negotiate. It's worth paying extra for but that's quite a bit more so I'd ask the cheaper firm to match the t&cs or the larger firm to slightly reduce their quote.

Worth asking?

When you say a big firm i'd be wary of the conveyancing specialists. My in laws used Countrywide and struggled to get through on phone etc. I've found my local firm easy to deal with and I like the fact I can hand deliver things and have solicitor's direct email.

I am not a natural haggler but you're right - I should give it a go!

How can you discuss whether it's a "fair deal" or not when we don't know what whether your house is "worth" 100k or 1 million??

House is selling for 148k.
