Does anyone have an idea how long this could take after an initial meeting with a broker? I'm in Scotland, so I need to have a mortgage in place before making an offer.

It should be within a day provided they have enough info to go on. But it is very much a hypothetical agreement, so they don't need that much.

We spoke to one broker who said that he should be able to apply for an agreement in principle and obtain it within a couple of hours. But the guy we usually use submitted our application recently for a mortgage and said that we would have an answer within one working day. It was the following afternoon when we heard back. They are usually pretty quick.

Thank you, Sunny. It's been a VERY long time since I did this, and I'm a bit clueless.

Our advisor gave us our agreement in principle certificate as we left the initial meeting with him.
