Asbestos in house we are trying to buy

We had an offer of £1k below asking price accepted on a house we love 4 weeks ago. The mortgage offer has taken ages to come through, but we finally got it on Thursday. Unfortunately? The roof of the brick built shed in the garden has asbestos, and is damaged/deteriorating. Obviously this is a concern, and we are going to ask the vendor if they will pay to have the asbestos roof removed. The issue we have is that the mortgage surveyor went up in to the loft, but said he couldn't tell whether or not the roof of the house was asbestos, as there were 'blockages'. Firstly, what do you all think they mean by blockages? Secondly, how likely is it that the roof has asbestos, given that the outbuilding roof does? It is a 60s ex council house. The vendors estate agent has said that they have sold other houses on the street that are the same build (I know they have sold the one opposite recently) and their surveys did not find asbestos in the roof.

You can commission an asbestos survey, or ask the seller to, as it sounds like it will come up on future sales if you pull out..

I'd say it's up to you - as a potential buyer- to carry out an asbestos survey if you are concerned that there might be further asbestos. That's what we did and we did find asbestos and came to an compromise with the vendor after that.
