How often do you redecorate?

I genuinely think to redecorate 1 room a year is not unreasonable.

I have 2 reception rooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms plus hall/stairs/landing so it generally works out each room gets decorated every 6 or 7 years.

My husband, bless him, thinks this is far too often and that if it still looks in good condition its ok to leave it. He also feels its too expensive to redecorate every few years. Hmm

When do you redecorate ? Would you leave things more than 7 years ? Is it a waste of money ?

Been here for 13 years had done the following:
New Roof
Rewire
New windows throughout
New boiler (and rads as we do each room)
New fitted kitchen
Decorated Dining room (three times)
Living room - 3 times
Bathroom - One major refurn 11 years ago
Bedroom 1 - once
bedroom 2 - twice
Bedroom 3 - once
Hall and landing - twice
Added wraparound extension in 2007, new kitchen, utility and downstairs loo.
I think the only original thing in each room are the floors (bar the hall that was rotten), we have gutted it completely!
Have not done anything the last two years, have blown all spare cash on holidays!

We try and do a complete room a year - new flooring, walls, ceiling and replace any dated fittings / furniture though also budget for one odd large house job a year too.
This year was DS1 room and natural stone flooring in the kitchen, last year was the hallways and raised beds in the garden!

We have just sold our house after 6 years but when we moved in we redecorated the whole house including carpets, put in fitted wardrobes, installed a study, changed all the light fittings, installed a bathroom and did a rear extension. Had we been staying in this house, next year, we would have re painted hallway and bedrooms, re carpeted the children's rooms and changed the ensuite bathroom.
