I want a free standing kitchen

Is this a strange idea?

Would free standing granite worktops work? Would someone make them for me? Are there any nice free standing furniture websites? Grin

Can I ask why? What is the appeal?

Mrsladybirdface · 19/10/2013 10:08

marks.and Spencer's have a lovely range, I stroke it whenever I go in

Fired Earth, I think.

MrsFlorrick · 19/10/2013 12:39

Fired Earth are lovely but seriously pricy.

You could look at Higham Furniture. Their website shows lots of fitted kitchens but they are fully bespoke and can make anything for you.

I've seen photos of some of their free standing work and its beautiful. Much nicer than FE. It's about 1/3 of the FE price too!

I have a Higham Kitchen (fitted one). And it's stunning. Solid painted maple with lacquered birch interiors. And the cost was a lot less than other companies and they built exactly what I wanted. Lovely to deal with too!

It's worth speaking to them and you can then compare to others you're looking at.

Just being nosy, what work tops are you thinking? And are you getting a range cooker?

MrsFlorrick · 19/10/2013 12:40

Sorry. You said granite. Yes it would work just fine.

Great, thanks for the company names to check out Smile.

I think we like free standing because its different / old fashioned / more modular. We need to think this through properly though.

I love the M&S freestanding kitchen too.
I got my kitchen from a company called Unfitted - which is obviously um - unfitted. They were a joy to deal with.

DancingRoundTheKitchen · 20/10/2013 17:45

Cooper - I've been looking at Unfitted, do you mind me asking what the prices were like?

DontMentionThePrunes · 20/10/2013 17:49

I have one but it's Habitat and so no longer available.
We have it because we didn't really want a fitted kitchen, unless a very ££££ one and we didn't have ££££.
I love it.

I've seen one by Old Creamery. It's gorgeous & was apparently very reasonable.
Question, if it isn't fitted can you drop things toast, tea spoons and veg peelings down the back?
