boiler turns itself on in the night!

the boiler in our new house turns itself on in the night :( the timer is turned off, but every hour or so it turns itself on for a few minutes which is deeply irritating and must be wasting gas. anyone else have this, and is there any way to stop it apart from turning off the boiler each night?

Faulty thermostat?

I wonder if it is a combi with a quick start facility that keeps itself hot to reduce delay when you turn on a tap.

If so the instructions will tell you how to switch it to economy mode.

Mine was doing this. It took the BG engineer about 7 visits to work out what it was. They changed the diverter valve which helped at first, but then there was something else after that. If I can find the report they gave me, I will let you know what it said.

Ours did this (tanked system, not a combi). It was two faulty actuators in the airing cupboard and they were fixed really simply. The heating engineer did think I was dreaming when I first told him about it though.

My Combi boiler is like PigletJohn describes, so it sometimes turns itself on so there is always instant hot water. There's an alternative of pressing an Eco button and leaving it on that setting which means it will stop regularly turning itself on but will take longer to get hot when you run a tap.

I've found the instructions, and it explains this is to shorten the warm up time, but there is no eco function. grrrr! thank you for your help everyone.

Mine comes on for 60 seconds at exactly 23:23 every night! Weird.
I’ve looked at the timer for heating and hot water and nothing is supposed to come in then.
Nuts!
