My head is going round and round with planning my new kitchen, cant believe the prices I have been quoted! Havent looked at Howdens yet, do like the look of their Burford Cream Shaker kitchen. Thanks

We saw a Burford cream door front, couldn`t believe how heavy it was, apparently mdf is very heavy. Still undecided about a new cooker, my old range (gas) has had it really, thermostat gone on one oven, hot plate also broken. Think I would prefer to still cook with gas, so looking at freestanding double oven cookers. I would just love to go away for a week and come back to find it done! It will be chaos having no kitchen with three ever hungry mouths to feed!

We have Burford cream, fitted last summer. no complaints about quality, only issues I have with it are more to do with the fitting (wonky door on one cupboard). I would use the kitchen designer's layout as a guideline and employ the services of a builder who can make suggestions about how to improve the design - we have an awkward shaped kitchen and our builder came up with some better ideas than the designer about how to maximise the
Space. Also, ask your builder to go through the quote and tell you if there are any unnecessary items eg worktop oil, unit ends, fittings pscks etc or items you may be able to find elsewhere for cheaper. We saved a couple of hundred pounds by doing this.

New home we bought had a burford cream kitchen. My only complaint is that the material isn't smooth, so it's not the easiest to clean. Also agree it's a pain that they only sell to trade. We wanted to add to it and had to do it through friends, who have now given up their card as they had been disappointed in the service over the years.

We had Howdens round today to measure up our new kitchen. Haven't seen the designs yet so can't comment on that but to address a couple of points:
You can go to the showroom and try out every combination of door and work top together - I really recommend this as we were dead set on burford grey until we saw how much better the gloss finish looked.

Pricing, we are using a builder rather than a kitchen fitter. He's doing some other work for us so has no interest in making a mark up on the kitchen price. Howdens are happy for us to see prices up front. Builder also recommended we negotiate hard as the sales staff have room to move on price.

Finally I managed to get a free cook book when I visited the show room and a free pan stand when they came out today. I know others who have had wine fridges thrown in for free!

I did Howden design was really good but I guess that depends on the designer.didn't buy appliances on recommendation of builder.. bought them from John Lewis who were happy to hold and deliver at the right time.

I have a cream shaker kitchen from howdens, with a solid oak work top. I am very pleased with it,happy to send pictures if you like!

It is easy to clean, soft close hinges are great, we bought it in the sales, a friend had a howdens account, so ordered it for us and a builder installed for us at a fraction of the cost.
We also haggled hard.

Triplets- just to let you know they have a sale on at the moment so if you can order before end of Oct you could get a lot off. We've just called in this morning to discuss quote and got £1000 knocked off (original quote was £4900) plus a free dishwasher thrown in! Haggle hard!
