Mounting a TV above a double panel central heating radiator OK?

Hello, I would like to mount our flat screen TV in the bedroom on the wall, but it would be directly above the double panel central heating radiator, currently the TV sits on a chest of drawers against the radiator which is next to the radiator and this hasn't caused any problems, but am concerned about the heat coming directly up if it was on the wall, will that cause any problems?

I've googled radiator shelves which can block some of the heat going up but will that mean the radiator won't work as well for the room as a whole? sorry disjointed post, but hope this makes some sense and someone can help. Thanks so much.

I don't think a radiator shelf would do any harm... It'll deflect some of the warm air away from rising straight up the wall, and out into the room, which is really where you want it. And whereas a full-on radiator cover will absorb a lot of the heat from the radiator (not idea), a simple shelf, where the whole front of the radiator is open, won't absorb much at all.

I do get what preciousbane is saying, but I'd take a more relaxed view of it. For one thing, a tv that produces a lot of heat is built to tolerate that heat, plus a range of room temperatures (say up to 28 degrees or so). Operating the tv above that temperature may indeed shorten its life, but how much of the time will that be? If your tv is particularly valuable, maybe put the shelf up, hang a thermometer at TV height, and see what temperature it gets to when the heating is on. If it's much above room temperature, then rethink.
