What's the vibe like? How are the schools? What's the sport centre like?
Thinking of moving to the area and interested to hear anyone's experience

Full of Koreans

titchy · 16/10/2013 10:07

Nothing wrong with Koreans Hmm

Good transport links, high street not too bad, close to Kingston for good shopping. Schools single sex, Challoners is Catholic boys.

Good range of housing, cheaper than Kingston.

titchy · 16/10/2013 10:09

Actually although NM has the highest population of Koreans I can't say Saturday afternoon on the High Street resembles Seoul, it seems quite European to me.

Leopoldina · 16/10/2013 10:09

superb therefore for korean food... Lots of nice interwar housing stock on quiet roads. Anything you need just up the road in Kingston, Richmond or Wimbledon, Richmond park nearby for outdoor sports, good train line to Wimbledon for the tube / Waterloo for city. Decent schools nearby for state and private. It is however just a little dull. BUt dull can be good for living in if you have easy access to interesting, and it's always going to be a lot cheaper to live there than Richmond / Wimbledon.

(Tudor Williams does however make me die a little inside)

specialsubject · 16/10/2013 10:13

check the traffic for where you are planning to go. The A3 is a living nightmare.

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 16/10/2013 11:09

LOL have been warned about Tudor Williams. What are the primary schools like?

Never said there was anything wrong with Koreans, so no need for the face! It is a fact that a lot of Koreans live in new Malden

MrsDavidBowie · 16/10/2013 13:43

Good primary schools...
Christ Church and Corpus Christi if you are religious, Burlington and Coombe Hill if not.

Coombe Girls and Coombe Boys for secondary, Challoner and Holy Cross for RC.
I've lived here for 18 years...I really like it. safe, quite buzzy, a good community feel.

Loads of Koreans and Korean businesses....decent winebar in Tthe Glasshouse, good train links up to town. Malden Centre is a good enough leisure centre, there is also Fitness First which is great.

Pm me if you want.

MrsDavidBowie · 16/10/2013 13:44

OH and Tudors has had a bit of a facelift on the ground floor, but the upstairs is still like Grace Brothers.

Jux · 16/10/2013 13:48

I worked in Tudor Williams for a very short time a very long time ago, 25+ years probably. It was horrible. I have been in there a couple of times over the last 10 years as my friend likes the cafe there (she's very nice, really!) and it has definitely improved enormously since I worked there. Really.

MrsDavidBowie · 16/10/2013 16:21

It is definitely trying to update, but the fashion (!) floor needs a lot of attention.

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 17/10/2013 21:09

Thanks all. Thanks MrsDB. All very helpful
