Planning question

MrsAlwaysRight · 11/10/2013 14:45

A few years ago we built a single storey rear extension and are now considering a loft conversion. Does anyone know if there is likely to be any problem with planning permission as we have already extended?
TIA

I assume you are building a dormer? Planners tend to only allow rear dormers and, depending on the local authority, they would need to be as small as possible. Planners don't tend to look at a single storey rear extension as a reason to refuse a loft extension, unless the house has been overly extended. It does not sound like it in your situation. You also are likely to have to provide on site parking as a new bedoom would be created

The best thing to do would be to ring the local planners for advice as it varies from area to area

Sorry, I'm typing with a baby on my lap Grin. You may not actually need planning permission; some loft conversions are permitted development

Hte only real instance when the previous addition will be taken into account is if you are in the Green Belt or a rural location.
