Being ignored in Chat [sob] so thought I'd try here. Any thoughts/experience of Redhill and specifically the area around Earlswood? TIA

I live there, what do you want to know?

beaglesaresweet · 11/10/2013 17:02

can i chip in, as also curious?
croche, is it nice to live there, quick commute, green spaces? any negatives? How doe sot compare to Reigate, which I did visit?
are property prices rising or not?
is there plane noise due to Gatwick?

beaglesaresweet · 11/10/2013 17:02

does it compare

LIZS · 11/10/2013 17:19

No plane noise to speak of although there is often talk of upgrading the local aerodrome. Green space is Memorial park in central Redhill plus open commons to south, Gatton Park to north and Priory park in Reigate. Redhill is an eclectic mix of period, 1930s, 1960s/70s property and newbuild estates whereas Reiagte is more period or conversions with 1970s suburban houses to south. Reigate has a more traditional and upmarket high street. If you don't need to be near a station there are plenty of nice villages within 10-15 minutes' drive

thanks, LIZ!
Reigate sounds better but it is more expensive. Is Redhill a safe area, incl evenings?
Now very worried about the aerodrome - just why? if they do that, probably both places will suffer.

LIZS · 11/10/2013 17:47

It is mainly helicopters and light aircraft . Discussions tie in with the airport expansion plans for SE and there is sufficient local opposition that it had been ongoing for the 20+ years we've lived in the area . Really aircraft noise is not a factor in either town, the Gatwick runway is East-West.

I have never felt unsafe in the evening wandering around either.
