perhaps it was very greasy.

Open the windows.

EastwickWitch · 06/10/2013 17:57

Blush it was.
I had the extractor on full blast & the windows open & now the shameful smell has finally gone.
Incidentally, it couldn't ignite could it?

I understand they are designed so that if the fat does start to burn, it will all be contained inside the oven, which is insulated and designed for high temperatures. But I have never seen it happen. I will guess that they do not bring in fresh air to support a flame.

Thanks PJ. There was a lot of grey ash.

Mine has had flames on the roof of the oven before but it just burns out once the fat has gone. Must use the cleaning function more frequently Blush

Mine has set the smoke alarm off before nowBlush - but I still love it, just a quick wipe down of the grey ash, brilliant!

EastwickWitch · 07/10/2013 21:11

It's just all rather scary when it sends out that horrific smell.
I'm just glad I don't have to scrub out the wretched thing.
I wonder how often you're supposed to do it. I must invite MIL for lunch more regularly!

doesn't the extractor hood whisk the smell away?

OnePlanOnHouzz · 08/10/2013 09:17

the cooker hood ( if vented outside ) will usually work more efficiently if you keep the windows and doors closed - rather than open - I know that goes against instinct - but try it next time you cook something smelly ? you will see what I mean !

EastwickWitch · 08/10/2013 09:46

Yes, I realised that the extractor on full pelt with the windows open under the outside vent was not the best idea!
