Has anyone employed their own building regulation officer rather than go through council?

Just wondering if you have - and if it was a good experience. We have had a terrible experience with our council one on our last build and have been advised to look into employing our own for the next stage to make life a bit more stress free. Was wondering about cost to.

Thank you!

I did it once because local authority was difficult about EVER YTHING. The cost was pretty much in line with LA prices but I found the independent BR officer much more helpful - gave me lots of advice in order that everything would be absolutely right when he came to inspect, iyswim.

I work for building surveyors. We're just employing one for the first time on a residential extension project. They quoted a little bit cheaper. And they're already more helpful.
