Why would you buy them from Ikea rather than elsewhere? Are they better value for money?

I hadn't heard about them. Do you have a link? If Ikea are producing solar panels then, yes, I would guess that they will be cheaper than many other suppliers.

It said in the papers this morning they were 5750 (or thereabouts) incl. fitting. Very cheap!

Wow - they give 15% off to loyalty card members too which brings price down to under £5k. That is a very good price and they've got a 5-year warranty. Don't know anything more than you do (probably a great deal less) but worth investigating if you are considering going off-grid.

Hmmm, looks kind of promising. They're talking about typical 7 years to break-even, and thats at current rates for feed-in. If everybody starts getting ikea solar panels, those rates are bound to get less favourable. On the other hand, it makes it look A LOT more accessible to the masses than £20k installations. I'll be watching this with real interest.

Friends of ours paid ~16k 18 months ago and although they know it's a good idea "long-term" they feel a little bitter about it. Mind you, given how much bills are these days, maybe it won't take long to break even.

We're getting them as soon as we're in our forever house. It's not even so much about "breaking even" as just being able to whack the heating on any time you fancy without the fear of a massive catch-up bill!
