Do I need an oftec plumber to install a new oil boiler?

A friends husband is a Plumber, a busy one. They have offered to give me a quote as my boiler is ancient and I don't want to risk another winter. I have just had a quote from a recommended oftec plumber for £7k (inc new Emersion and thermostats) but this seems very high.
Should I stick with oil specialists??

I would only employ your friend's husband if he regularly installs oil boilers.

If you think the quote you have had seems to expensive get more.
it is normal to get 3 quotes for this type of work.
If they all are about £7 k then that is the price you should pay - run from the person not charging enough!
Your boiler is going to give heating & hot water all year round for the next 20-30 years so it is a major long term investment not something that you just let the cheapest odd job man put in for you.
BTW - my husband is also a plumber and heating installer. I would go for someone who is OFTEC

I must also say that if your oil burning appliance is not corectly installed or not regularly maintained then not only will it not work properly but it could give off carbon monoxide - 4,000 per year in UK go to A&E being poisoned by this gas. Of course it can kill you all.
Not a risk worth taking with an amateur boiler installation.

that does seem rather high, given I've just paid about 2.5k for an Oftec-firm to do the same work, all in.

it doesn't have to be a registered installer but it MUST be checked by someone who is. The country is full of registered firms so why employ someone who isn't?

BTW you need to get a shift on if you want it before the winter.
