Just bought a house with folding doors - some quick questions for current owners

LOVE our new doors, but I'm just wondering a couple of things:

  • They are a bit stiff - can you get someone round to service them and get the runners smooth again or should I try something myself? What general maintenance should I be doing to keep them good or do they need servicing every now and again?
  • They have a key to lock them but even without actually locking them you don't seem to be able to open them from the outside. Do you always lock them when when going out to be on the safe side?

Thank you!!

Are they wood or metal frames? Wood ones can stick from time to time as they warp slightly depending on the weather (usually stick in the damp, fine when it's dry).

Other than that, keep the runners free of leaves and other debris from the garden (we hoover ours out periodically with a garden leaf vacuum). We always lock ours from the inside for extra security....if someone breaks in the window, it makes their life more difficult if they have to go out of the same window rather than out of a door.

Great thanks pootle, they are metal frames. Hoovering out the runners sounds like a good idea, there seems to be a lot of stuff down there.
