Showers in bath?

We've got a small bathroom - not enough room for bath and shower. I've always thought that showers in baths were a bit bleugh but we don't seem to have any other options.

We need to keep the bath - don't we??

If you put un a shower curtain, make sure you use a curved curtain pole - it totally stops the curtain sticking to you.

Rip the bath out and put a fabulous shower in - with a choice of fixed head and flexible, for ease of cleaning and to hose down small children ! And if someone else wants to put a bath in after you they can ! Anyone visiting with a small baby can use a baby bath in the shower too, just like they would in a bath ! Just keep one in the spare room for this if its a common occurrence .
Don't feel pressured not to Live in your home the way YOU want to !! :-)

We've just ordered a corner bath which will have a shower attachment that will probably run from the bath taps - mainly because a) we were planning to have an extra shower room upstairs and b) it fits in well with our (tiny) bathing area.

I'd definitely recommend keeping the bath if you're planning to sell or rent anytime in the near future - I know a lot of people were put off from the flat we rented a year ago because of the walk in shower/no bath combo. However, this is YOUR home and it needs to reflect what YOU want - there are ways and means of tweaking things around - perhaps having a shower tap unit on the bath allows you to have both, but it does increase the cleaning work (I'd say, anyway).

Shower in a bath is not great but it's definitely better than either no shower or no bath.

One massive benefit of having a shower in the bath is you don't have that cold blast of air when you open the doors that you get in a cubicle.

I have a screen rather than a shower curtain.

I have the same dilemma as you.

As I think we will be renting this out next year, we have opted to have a cupboard removed (the door is in the spare room, but the 'space' is in the bathroom - if that makes sense?!) which will enable us to fit in both - just. It's not ideal as it will make it a bit cramped, but it's the best available option.

I have lived in a flat with shower, no bath and a house with bath, no shower, and there is no contest over which I preferred. (the bath!)

No possibility of a nice long soak with bubbles etc is a mare.

We now have a bathroom with shower in the bath and another shower room. I nearly always use the bathroom tho, wither bath or shower over the bath. It's fine.

We have just changed our bathroom suite and put new tiles up. I would have LOVED to have got a shower only instead of having one over the bath but as it's the only bathroom in a 3 bed house we felt that we had to have a bath.

We got a screen and it just looks and feels so much more grown up. Over the bath showers can look good if you go for nice fittings and a high spec finish. (I still would love a walk in double shower though....)

A shower over the bath wouldn't put me off Saves space. Also if shower curtains are sticking to you, try the ones with weights in the bottom hem. More pricey but worth it.

WilsonFrickett · 30/09/2013 13:29

I would never buy or rent a house without a bath. I've never had a separate shower either, come to think of it. Showers over baths seem to be the norm here...

Do what you want if you are planning on staying there for a while. When it comes to selling though I'd put a bath in just because that's what other people want / expect.
