Is anyone else going through a series of household disasters?

Aaaaaggghhhh! Our house is driving me insane. We have lived here for 2.5yrs. Before that, I owned a flat for 5yrs during which time I had to have the heating element in the oven fixed, the boiler replaced and a plumber out once for a reason I can't remember. Since we have lived here, it seems to be one thing or another and every month we seem to spend another £200 on something unexpected which means that, yet again, there are no treats or savings. I kept putting off buying winter boots last winter and can see myself doing the same this year. We currently have water coming out of a pipe in the kitchen. We have turned off what we thought was the stop cock to no avail so are now waiting for the emergency plumber. The emergency repair offered by the home insurance can't come until Thursday morning by which time I fear the flooring will be ruined.
Can anyone else cheer me up by sharing their tales of woe?
And what can we do to prevent it?
If the boiler repair man (who practically moved in he was here so often last winter) ever turns up, that's going to be another bill. Sigh.

yes!

In this month alone:

broken oven fan - £160

I left water pressure on boiler and burst a radiator, water everywhere in the living room and an inch deep - guessing £300 or so, still waiting for quote.

Boiler service needs doing too - no idea of price

Last year - leaky bath had two plumber call outs when water started flowing down stairs into our kitchen! Previous owner did terrible DIY.

We are also renovating the kitchen and downstairs and still after a year and 4 months, due to mind changes/ delays on availability of tradesmen and due to crap work done by a workman, we are still not finished an area of only 40 sq m!!!

Dont know what we could do to avoid these things. You're not alone and I feel so sorry for you and the pipe - thats shocking that they cant come out earlier.

Oh good. Just hearing that has made me feel less alone. I keep telling myself that we are lucky to pay for this stuff to be repaired there and then but the on-going roof problems have meant we won't go on holiday this autumn as we meant to, we are now trying to find a second hand present for DD's birthday rather than new, are delaying getting the DC new car seats (neither of them are at the top of the weight or height levels yet so they are still safe in their current car seats). I realise all of those would have been "nice to haves" but, if it wasn't for this house/run of bad luck, we would have got them and I would have got my boots.
