Do I need paperwork etc from builder?

Having about 10 grand worth of building work done soon, the builder we're using has given us a written estimate.

Should I be asking for anything else? The work includes a DPC, so we'll get a certificate for that. What paperwork do I need to guarantee the work?

The most important thing is to make sure your buildings / contents insurance is in order. So you'll need to notify them about the work in advance, and then provide them with the building control completion certificate when its all done.

If you also want a guarantee against shoddy workmanship or the builders going out of business, you'll need to pay an insurance company to provide it.

I don't know what you mean by a DPC certificate. The DPC will be inspected during the course of the works by building control.

Most importantly, you need a completion certificate at the end of the works.
