Safe paint for cot?

We have just picked up a secondhand cot bed via eBay. It is quite marked up with some scratches to the woodwork so we are thinking about painting it.
It's solid wood and it has been painted white.
Which paints would be safe to use for me and the baby?

you can get nursery paints from paint shops.

Otherwise a water-based white acrylic primer and a water-based gloss should be as safe as anything. It is not as durable and glossy as oil paint, but that isn't your concern here.

Thanks Piglet. Have been to a few DIY stores today and couldn't find any nursery paint, so will go with your second option.

Little Greene make child friendly eggshell paint, suitable for toys etc.
