Anyone bought a 'French Door' fridge freezer?

Hoping to piggy back on your research!

I'm quite taken with the idea of a French door fridge freezer for our new extension - has anyone got one? Any recommendations or ones to avoid? Good manufacturers or models?

Tips welcome.

Many thanks.

No but my DH came up with a clever plan to get one on the cheap. They cost ££££. We bought a full height fridge and separate freezer from the same manufacturer. Then reversed the door on the freezer side so that, from the outside, it looks like one of the posh expensive ones, but it was not!

Helliecopter · 18/09/2013 18:10

Ha! That's a cunning plan! Is it not mega-wide though?!

OP posts:
Tinlegs · 18/09/2013 20:21

Not sure how wide but looks fab! I guess it depends on the makes you buy. We have indesit.

EastwickWitch · 18/09/2013 20:30

Blooming mumsnet. I'd never even heard of french door freezers & now I want need one. I'm not a fan of ice dispensers, but have found one without.

Helliecopter · 18/09/2013 21:28

Hehe sorry! Not really
Good aren't they. I like it more than the American!
Which one do you fancy?

This one looks good but I cant recommend it as I don't have one, I'd love one but cant afford it.

The other option it to buy 2 fridge freezers and put them side by side with door opening inwards, as Tinlegs suggests, that way all your fridge space is higher up and your freezer space at the bottom, which is easier IMO, also if one breaks down you aren't scuppered.

Driz · 20/09/2013 05:40

Surely that just creates a side-by-side Tinlegs? A French door is completely different and IMO far more useable.

I have one of these. I luff it. I occasionally stroke it Blush

I bought it as it had some good reviews, was the right size, but mostly because I thought it looked brilliant

It may be too small for what you want though.

Helliecopter · 20/09/2013 15:47

I get where you're coming from with the two fridge freezers side by side, but that'd be too big for the space, and really too big for what we need. There are only four of us.

That Beko is good value actually, compared to others I've seen.

That LG is lush! Is the SS hard to keep nice?

FishfingersAreOK · 20/09/2013 16:05

The LG is brushed steel - shows the odd finger print but a quick swipe with an ecloth sorts those effortlessly. I love the chill drawer and the ice maker (no need to plumb in -just a water compartment) . THe half doors mean it does not protrude into the room when someone is getting the milk out.

Luffffffsss it....and everyone has admired it.

Artyjools · 20/09/2013 18:03

I have a Fisher Paykel - www.expert.ie/Product/Fisher-and-Paykel-Freestanding-Fridge-Freezer-RF540ADUX2/297809/3.1 - which we absolutely love. People who come to the house lust after it. It is the bee's knees of fridge freezers. OK, it is expensive, and I very nearly bought the Beko one, but I'm soooo glad I didn't.

impecuniousmarmoset · 20/09/2013 19:46

We got a panasonic one which sadly isn't on teh market any more. Incidentally, I was also incredibly sniffy about having an ice-maker - much too brashGrin. If there'd been a suitable model without one I'd definitely have opted for that. But now we have it...phew, so glad we bought one! We LOVE it. On tap ice all summer, it's brilliant! And the kids love it too.

Pannacotta · 20/09/2013 21:32

This one is a really good price, no reviews on the site, but worth a look elsewhere

I have a brushed steel sex frudge, I luffs it

Helliecopter · 24/09/2013 13:52

lol...what?!! Where do I buy me a sex fridge?!

OP posts:
impecuniousmarmoset · 24/09/2013 16:18

A sex frudge? Why did no-one tell me about those when we were in the market for fridge-freezers? Sad

Madamecastafiore · 24/09/2013 16:20

AGA do them - next door neighbour has a beautiful one in cream that matches her oven.

Helliecopter · 24/09/2013 20:23

I just googled 'sex fridge' - shame on me!! Blush Quite amused by the results though. I don't think AGA make a sex fridge? ;)

They do make beautiful fridge freezers though, I agree with you there!

OP posts:
TrinityRhino · 25/09/2013 11:06

lol sorry guys
my dh bought me it years ago and I said it was the best fridge ever
there was a thread about it and it ended up being called my sex frudge... frudge not fridge, cant remember why

it would have been in chat though so gone poof now

Helliecopter · 25/09/2013 13:51

lol...okay!! Well it must be a fabulous fridge to become a sex frudge! What brand was it?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 25/09/2013 15:56

I have the Fisher Paykel one and love it.

Helliecopter · 04/10/2013 19:09
