Hi All, I am in need of some help. My hubby has gotten a job with Manchester Uni and we will be in the UK in the next month. I really want to live somewhere rural with a 30-40 minute commute by rail to Manchester. We are looking at 600 pcm to rent for 3 years. What do people know of Glossop? Any good area/bad areas things to watch out for etc etc? Any help would be gratefully received!
Cheers
Sneaky

Do you get the tv show League of Gentleman in NZ? It's filmed near Glossop. My old neighbours made me think this was not a coincidence. But otherwise all lovely and I miss the North West a lot as I've had to move away.

And if you have a dog then Woof n Ready on the High Street are lovely - I still haven't found a replacement who is as good as they are there.

We do the the League of Gentlemen here yes. I shall have to haunt the fields once I arrive :)

If you want to know abut Broadbottom, then PM me OP. it's a really lovely part of the world, real sense of community. Lots of access to outdoorsy stuff and manchester a short train ride away. Near enough to Glossop to just pop down, the high street is great and thriving and manor park is excellent, but far enough away to not have to worry about the traffic in and out of Glossop.

Cycling up Mottram Moor? Jesus wept! I hate people pushing in there and on the roundabout, I've nearly come to blows several times with people turning to take the from of my car off.

Re: the bypass, we recently lost our house sale because of the recently announced yet another fucking study into it. Yes I have written to my MP! Confused

yes my neighbour reckons I'm hardcore for biking up Mottram Moor, but it doesn't take long and you just have to rely on your road craft.

League of Gentlemen was filmed in Hadfield - my house is in one of the scenes in Series 2. The pub in the series has been shut down (it was awful) and opened last week as our own Tesco Express.

And yes us 'locals' are very friendly and don't bite much.

Another Glossoponian here! We live in the town centre and absolutely adore it. Wouldn't live anywhere else even if we won the lottery.

Most properties exude character because Glossop is a very old place. Our home is over 300 years old and comes complete with creaking floorboards!

Natives are very friendly, always get a smile and hello when we go into shops. Neighbours are lovely and friendly and I think Glossop is very family friendly.

The high street is very pretty, especially the Christmas Tree in the square at Christmas. Excellent monthly farmers Market and three day a week indoor and outdoor markets. Also excellent and affordable places to eat both day and evening.

I love Glossop!
