Question about moving day

This might be a daft question but where do you go on moving day while the removals firm do their thing?

Old house? New house? Should there be one person at each?

Also do you clean your old house after they've moved everything out of it?

I've only ever moved myself before as had no furniture and it was just me.

We were pretty organised but there was still stuff to do (bits we wanted to put in our cars, last minute packing, etc). Once this was sorted, I cleaned behind the removal guys (we'd cleaned in advance so nothing heavy but as they finished a room, I'd be in for a quick Hoover and wipe of the skirting boards / check it was all empty).

At the new house, I mostly pointed to which room stuff went into - sometimes from a chair (I was 24 weeks pg!). I also had a cleaner in to deep clean the kitchen in the new house on moving day as it was a bit filthy...

Also, we had a bit or running around to do on the day (picking up keys, dropping off keys).

You tend to spend the morning at your old house, wait to hear you've completed, go pick up keys (often around lunchtime), then spend the afternoon at your new house.

We cleaned behind the movers in the morning, and when we arrived at our new home it was spotless, so we just made coffee and directed boxes.

Paying for the removal firm to pack for you is worth every penny by the way.

You spend the morning at your old house. I'd want to make sure everything runs smoothly and everything is in the van and the house if left tidy and hoovered for new people. Then wait til you get go ahead from estate agent and solicitor and the keys are released and in you go to your new place

We've always been at whichever house the removers are at, so old house whilst they are moving us out, new house when they are moving us in. But if there are 2 adults and you have the new house available, one of you could be at the new house cleaning before the furniture is moved in.

I try to clean as much as possible before the move, not when it's empty. The only time I've cleaned an empty house after moving out is when it was a rented house and we'd moved nearby and needed to leave it at a very high standard to get our deposit back. I usually clean the new house after moving in unless it's local and I have time before the move.

I find the removal day/s are the easiest days of the whole move. Lots of hanging around with nothing to do when the removers are there. The big tasks are packing and unpacking before and after the move.

Ah I think I was imagining the removals would make a few trips, I don't know why. They'll fit it all in one truck won't they? Will they?

Will try and clean as much as possible before so we're not hanging about.
