Oh my goodness, I admire the wholeheartedness of the decor, but...

I really don't think I could live in it. Not least because I often get distracted and bump into bits of my house, in this house I would probably impale myself through the heart and die horribly, or loose an eye. Here.

What struck me was the extravagance of the metalwork contrasted with the banality of the soft furnishing and fabrics. I like a bit of metal myself, having quite a bit of sculpture in my house and garden, but this is waaaay Edward Scissorhands.

BillyGoatintheBuff · 13/09/2013 09:08

What compels people to do this?

BlissfullyIgnorant · 13/09/2013 09:13

A clear case of more money than taste.

Is that a giant sculpture of a cross between a spider and a fly on top of the cupboard in the ??? room?

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/09/2013 09:17

I love it!!

Amazing to evoke such wonderful, natural elements from steel. Very well done, to a high standard and really beautiful.

I'm not too keen on the rest of the decor though.

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/09/2013 09:19

The spider web staircase is amazing!!

pictish · 13/09/2013 09:27

The thing is - none of it goes with the horrible 80s decor. It's just a horrible house.

Earthymama · 13/09/2013 09:36

I love it too!

I bet it looks great in reality. I hate big glass boxes with one artfully placed 'piece'! A la Grand Designs.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/09/2013 09:45

Hmm part Gaudi part gaudy - I think the metal and tiling art is overdone - but the sad thing is it would probably work in a mediterranean environmenta villa somewhere coastal - it is just not working so much in 'sunny' Dublin - shame really.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 13/09/2013 10:09

I really like it.

Except for what appears to be a mosaic of Jesus over the toilet. Some things just don't need divine accompaniment.

GibberTheMonkey · 13/09/2013 10:11

I agree that some bits are lovely. The peacock gate is nice but there is just too much of it

newpup · 13/09/2013 10:52

Shock My eyes my poor eyes!

Islagiatt · 13/09/2013 11:00

Just because you can. Doesn't mean you should.

BMW6 · 13/09/2013 20:21

Put me in mind of the Aliens films............Shock

MoonlightandRoses · 13/09/2013 23:03

Hmm, looks as though the house sits well in its surroundings though sort of ties in with the metalwork vs furnishing clash on the inside. Just pan away from the main gate to see what I mean.

WetAugust · 13/09/2013 23:49

Hideous.

QuintessentialShadows · 13/09/2013 23:51

I have surprised and surpassed myself. I actually love it, spiraling metal and all!

GemmaTeller · 14/09/2013 14:56

Just because you can. Doesn't mean you should

brilliant comment!

even the outside metal fencing on the street is horrible

insancerre · 14/09/2013 15:06

some of it I really like
some of it is a bit OTT

Zoe789 · 14/09/2013 15:26

The kitchen is an odd mix of sterile modernity and middle of the road country house, but apart from that I like it. I really hate blandness.

If you cleared out the owners possessions you'd have a lovely house there. Few tweaks here and there. I'd give them 1.4 for it, not a cent more. I'll keep an eye on the property register now and see how much it goes for.

Zoe789 · 14/09/2013 15:28

Actually, looks like it belongs to an artist who treated their house like a blank canvas and got really carried away. The mosaics look like they could be nice if there were fewer of them.

propitia · 15/09/2013 15:06

Well, for once you can't blame the estat agents for poor photos. This one has gone out of his way to make sure you know what's what before viewing....

AgentProvocateur · 15/09/2013 15:24

I love it too.

I love that bathtub, and there are some features that are absolutely stunning! Some of the ironwork is a bit creepy, but I'd love that dragon at my gate Grin
