Water stain

Hi I have to re-paint a chimney breast where water marks are showing on white paint. Could anyone suggest something that will work. It is currently painted with emulsion, which needs to go on top of the stain blocker.

Thanks

You can get spray cans of primer paint in DIY shops designed to cover staining caused by damp. Spray on a coat or two. Leave to dry overnight and then paint over with the emulsion of your choice.

Many thanks! It was from the chimney leaking, do you think it will still work as not exactly damp, but runs and stains?

Worked on exactly that in my old house! Kind of yellowy brown dribbles.

Make sure you get that leak fixed though, else it will be back

We painted over a water leak stain with gloss paint and then painted over.
