Anyone advise how to get a mortise lock off a Victorian door?

I have two old Victorian doors that I have had stashed away and now want to turn into headboards. Thought this would be relatively simple and a case of merely taking off handles and hooks and painting/adding trim etc. Did not bargain on a lock... I have removed 3 screws holding the plate to the door but cannot get handles off. They aren't screwed on so cannot remove screws to loosen (one had one small screw but the other doesn't) and have tried pushing in the jamb and wriggling handles to no avail. It is loose but can't get the damn thing off without removing handles! Please help!

I posted too soon (desperate!) and saw that one of the knobs had a screw that had got hidden under a loose plate - wiggling didn't help but it did unscrew! All off now - thank you!
