Options for shading a poly carbonate roof in a conservatory

My (skint) mum has a manky conservatory which she is inexplicably attached to. She has declined to rip the fucker down, even though it is hotter than the surface of the sun in their in the summer. It would cost lots and lots to have the poly roof replaced with glazing (and I'm not sure it would help that much anyway), has anyone else successfully dealt with this? Roof blinds? Stick on stuff?

We used to have a old crap conservatory, single glazed, including the roof. It was as you describe, so useless. We used to put rolls of those reed things, used for garden screening on the roof in summer to shade it.

We've since replaced it with a properly built, double glazed one, with polycarbonate roof and its fab. Can now be used all year round.
We do, however now have double doors at the front, a side door and 2 roof vents.

Is it possible to get some roof vents fitted? You literally feel the temperature dropping as you open them.

A white tarpaulin might work well to give you shade without taking too much light . Either strung up inside or outside on the roof !?! :-)

Roof vents look just the thing! Looks like you can have them made up to fit, and my brother is very handy so I'm sure could manage to retrofit one in. Mum is very excited! Thanks :)
