Selling house and home insurance due

We are in the process of selling our house. We will probably complete mid October. The issue is our home insurance is due from the beginning of September. I usually just pay the year up front but I don't really want to do that for maybe 6 weeks cover!

Is there such a thing as short term home insurance or month by month?

probably not - contact your insurers and find out what the cancellation cost would be, if any. also do the usual big shop around and check the details on those policies.

If you are buying another house you can just transfer the policy (there maybe additional cist or refund). But most will give you a pro rata refund minus admin charges.

Yes. I was in the same situation, and my broker found me a monthly policy that covered me until the move. It was more expensive - about £50/mth instead of £35 - but didn't tie me in. And although it's true you can transfer policies, there are admin fees for doing it which are higher than the £30 extra I paid for the 2 months before the move, and when I came to get my new policy, I benefited from discounts and deals that insurance companies offer when they're fighting for new custom!

Usually can transfer if similar properties, so no wasted money.

Sorry should have said that we will then be moving into rented for a while so won't be able to transfer either.

Will see what the cancellation policy states on my current insurance.

We moved from owned to rented back to owned. I kept the policy going, just "turned off" the building bit when we rented and "turned it back on". I did use a broker though, so it was relatively simple.
