Toilet flushes on its own!

doglover · 21/08/2013 18:58

After we've flushed the loo, about 30 seconds later, the toilet flushes again! This is somewhat bemusing and I'd love to know what is causing it!

And no, I'm not looking for poltergeist-type replies!!

TIA

is it one of those ones where if you don't keep the handle down until it has finished then it does a fuller flush?

LynetteScavo · 21/08/2013 22:06

Take the lid off the cistern, and have a look.....

sapfu · 21/08/2013 22:08

Ah. A plootergeist. Get a priest.

DameDoom · 22/08/2013 00:30

Ours did that and my husband tightened something up with a spanner but he is an amazingly practical and down to earth man. I'd ask him but he's in bed therefore the only advice I would have is to order an exorcist as you are clearly riddled with ghosts. My husband tinkered in the cistern while I wafted incense and amulets so I am not sure which one of us actually solved the problem.

Mintyy · 22/08/2013 00:32

Spookeh!

PattieOfurniture · 22/08/2013 00:36

Maybe it's because of those ghost poo's that you do, you know, the ones you swear you felt'em coming out but when you look down the pan, nothing, then you wipe your bum and it's a ghost wipe too, clean paper!
Or maybe it's 'cause you've got dodgy plumbing. (more likely).

TheFutureMrsB · 22/08/2013 00:51

Have you recently put a cistern block thingy in the well, cistern??

Mine flushes like mad after I add these making it pretty pointless really! As when it's needed it's already run out Hmm. Doesn't happen any other time only when these are added.

DameDoom · 22/08/2013 00:59

Absolutely TheFutureMrsB a plumber once pulled one out of my cistern and the look of disgust could have curdled milk. Felt like a teenage boy who had just been rumbled over his porn collection. It was explained to me in no uncertain terms that LooBloo and its ilk are indeed the work of the devil. He was not laughing.

KhloeKardashian · 22/08/2013 01:03

Yes got to be a loopootergeist!

sapfu · 22/08/2013 01:03

Where is the OP? Has she been sucked into the netherworld of the crapper, in the style of that blonde child in that film (which may actually have been called Poltergeist but it was a telly not a bog)?

We need a tiny squeaky voiced woman, a bath full of gunge and a rope.

KhloeKardashian · 22/08/2013 01:06

Maybe the dog the OP loves got sucked down the loo? and OP is otherwise engaged!

CanadianJohn · 22/08/2013 04:18

Please note I am in Canada, and you likely don't have the same brand of toilet as us. Even so, this might give you an idea.

We had the same problem, the toilet flushing by itself, and the solution was to change a rubber seal on the fill valve. The fill valve is made by Fluidmaster, model 400A, and the rubber seal is part # 242C

LynetteScavo was right.
