Upset at derision for my decor

A colleague came round for coffee yesterday and openly laughed at my house and shockingly bad taste. She spent about 2 hours ridiculing my 'delusional grandeur' and picked out item after item for scorn.

I bloody love my home and spend most of my money and time on it because I really love interiors to the point of obsession. I openly admit that and I know my taste isn't to everyone's but I was offended.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? If I don't like something I just keep my trap shut.

Invite yourself to hers and let it rip.

It is a bit late, but it sounds like a perfect occasion for the Mn phrase, "Do you mean to be SO rude?"

Spend a nice half hour laying into their hair/clothes when you see them next.

No return invite for them! A potential friendship well and truly squashed.

And no, it's not funny, or 'just a joke' if that's what they say when they sense your annoyance or if you say anything. It's just rude and stupid.

Hasn't happened to me but it's rare for guests to be that rude. You were unlucky.

Very bitchy of her. Respect lacking!! It is an honour to be invited to someone's home and like you I would keep it zipped if I didn't like things. I think it is the only place you can be truly yourself and happy in. Did ou say anything back to her ?

I bet if you were to do it to her she would be majorly offended as well. I remember a school "friend" continously mocking our car when I was at school because it was old, whenever she saw it or was given a lift in it, but I only had to mention once that her doorbell was ridiculous (it played a tune) and she was in a major huff.

Admittedly we were both ten.

I have been to her house and it is very nice but definitely not my taste. Here's me thinking that's what makes the world go around. It never crossed my mind to take the mick out of her choices and I really don't know her enough to warrant the comments and advice she insisted on a dishin'.
Nilby I am very much an Abigail Ahern fan/stalker and buy a lot from her Islington shop ( she's doing a diffusion range in Debenhams from Sept 1 ). My house is in v dark and sludgy because that's what I like. I think my crime was mentioning I spend most of my disposable cash on my home - that irked her. I don't have children so it isn't child-friendly and that pissed her off too ( she didn't bring hers so no danger).

I would have said something if I had not been so stunned by her rudeness. I was a bit agog to be honest. I won't waste my energy.
All my friends have different tastes and a couple are very interiors obsessed like me but that is neither here nor there as far as friendship goes... demi-john of wine, a bag of crisps and a reet laugh is all I require from a mate's home.
