Move to Broxbourne?

Toni123 · 17/08/2013 18:51

We are considering moving to Broxbourne mainly because of the large modern detached houses and schools'(Sheredes Primary/Broxbourne Secondary). DS1 will be in year 3 in Sept and DS2 will start reception Sept 2014.

Budget is about 600k and we want a fast and easy commute to London. There isn't a lot of information about Broxbourne, except that its a "nice area".

May I please have some information about Broxbourne? What's good about it? What's bad about it? Is it overpriced? Is it a good place to bring up kids? Any other areas to consider?

Looking forward to your response as we are considering putting an offer on a property.

Broxbourne is nice and pleasant , lovely river and woodland walks. But there isnt a lot there really. There is the Broxbourne theatre and Lowood museum. The Tower centre has been quite dead but they are spending a lot of money on it at the moment so hopefully will improve. There are plenty of houses for around your budget
Broxbourne school has always had an excellent reputation and it is the school parents fight to get into. I dont know about Sheredes primary but Sheredes secondary hasnt long come out of special measures.
I dont actually live in Broxbourne but not far from there and my dcs go to school in Hoddesdon.

Many Thanks for your feedback Bruffin. I don't mind going into London for entertainment. The move is mainly for a bigger house and good schools.

I live the stop before broxbourne and London is very easy for a night at theatre etc. The oyster card takes you to Broxbourne now. Cambridge is also very accessible from Broxbourne and there are also trains direct to Stratford Westfield.

I would be put off by its proximity to Cheshunt, Hoddesdon & Waltham Cross - all of which are not nice.

Hertford area is much nicer.

There is nothing wrong with Cheshunt Capitola have lived there 20 years.

I do like Hertford a lot , but train wise Hertford East is the end of the line so the trains are not as regular as Broxbourne. Not so how regular thw teauns are from Hertfird North.

Thanks All. Hertford is a bit further than we want. We want to be just outside London.
