Can I ask the vendor to have the central heating system serviced?

The vendor has never had the central heating system serviced over the last 10 years, and they don't know when it was last serviced either. The property is an old 1930' property. Can i ask the vendor to have the central heating system serviced? Can anybody advise on this? Thanks!

you can ask. :-) If you are concerned about the state of it, then knock your offer down accordingly.

if it is an oil boiler it MUST be serviced every year or it is unlikely to be working. Gas boilers can rub along without servicing but won't work as well.

suggest budget £3k or so for new boiler and fitting, plus £500 for system flushing.
