Thoughts on Wootton Bassett as a place to live?

We are currently based in Reading but thinking of moving to get a bigger house. Wootton Bassett has good value housing, good schools as far as I can tell, and seems like a nice little town when we've been for a scout around. Does anyone have any experience of it? It's always great to get first hand opinions and we don't know anyone that lives there.

School has excellent rep locally and kids travel for miles to go. Not a huge fan of the village myself, its v v small and parochial (imo) which might be hard for you after being in Reading. Also road into Swindon can be a nightmare at commute time if you need to go to the station.

I transplanted near there a decade ago...I'm a Londoner.
Found it quite difficult to settle, villagey small place.
Too small for me.
