Found an amazing house - but we weren't going to move

DH has found our ideal house whilst mooching around Zoopla. He's booked a viewing. We've never been totally happy with our current place but we're just about to finish extensive garden landscaping, the daughter is starting school down the road in 5 weeks and this place is 4 miles away. This would be our forever house, needs lots of love and attention but nothing we'd have to live in a caravan for. We'd never be able to afford it once it's been renovated but I have niggles over school being a distance away and eventually having to move her to the village school after such a short time at a school she's really excited about going to. WWYD?

Are you in a position to buy?
If it's such a great house, go for it. What is the village school like near the new house? I wouldn't worry too much about changing schools as long as the schools themselves are okay - my two have changed several times between them for various reasons, but it's never really been a problem.

seize the opportunity !

life is too short to stay put ! good luck to you all !

There is never a good time to make a move ... If the house ticks the boxes it is as good a time as any

All wise words, thank you.

We aren't yet in a position to buy but we're fortunate enough to be in an area with a pretty buoyant property market so if we do decide to go ahead with this place it won't take long to get the ball rolling. All I know about the local school is that is has one class in each year - unlike the 3-form entry she's going in to. Of course I have no idea what other interest there has been in the place, this could all be academic if it goes under offer tomorrow.

It's a bit like having kids - there's never a good time for that, either!

Well done you, Polter! I think we'll be in the same situation as you with regards to going on with the same agent and only for this particular house. It's nuts, but I'm getting used to the idea. Been researching the commute all morning... more expense to factor in Hmm.

Hey Lunatic, sounds very familiar! We viewed it on Saturday and the house is wonderful, just what we want - built for the vendors 40 years ago and totally untouched since. Compromise is the location but the potential deal-breaker is the garden - it sits at the bottom of a massive slope. Huge. Enormous. It's a bit of the North Downs basically. And although they've been happy to live with it for 40 years (and a tiny strip of patio around the rear of the house) it's not how we want to live. We might go back with the landscaper who's currently doing our patio/driveway to get an idea of cost (see, we really weren't going to move!) but it's probably going to push it out of our price range. Shame, but I believe there's always a reason for these things.

stacysmom oh a shame about the garden. There is rarely a perfect house unless you have millions to spend.

I am like you - spend tons of time trawling through Zoopla and always wanting to move, but the actual process of moving is not that easy.
We have done the opposite thing, i.e. put our house on the market twice, both times went under offer quickly, but I could not find anything to buy so I lost my buyers eventually.

Now I am trying the opposite way - looking for houses and will put mine back on the market as soon as I find a house I want to buy.
