Anyone got an opinion on double versus triple glazing...my head is wrecked

Hi, I am hoping some of you MN experts have refitted windows and have some opinions on what level of glazing to get because my head is wrecked at the moment. The sales people from window companies have opposing views on what type of glazing to get so some impartial advice here would be appreciated. Triple glazing sounds good because it minimises heat loss but is £££ extra and there can be issues with hinges because of the weight of the windows but some companies claim that A rated double glazing is just as good. So if anyone can shed any light (no pun intended) on this I'd appreciate it .....
Ta very much, FF

We fitted triple glazing 2 years ago. We had double before. It is fab - can now sit right by the windows in winter (live in Norway). I don't know of any problems with hinges. Everyone has them here and they are fine. Would not fit double glazing for new windows, not even in the UK.

Great to hear they are a success, maybe the hinge comment in relation to triple glazing is hearsay but have heard it from a few people, the theory is that if you open the window a lot the weight of the window pulls on the hinges and they don't last long Confused

my guess is that hinge thing was a myth started out by the people with large stocks of double glazing to sell ! the hinges need to be strong enough to cope with the infirm leaning on them when they open a window !! they are stronger than they look !! I had just had my windows made (hardwood with double glazing ) when the triple glazed option was offered - as the windows were already to go - I said no - it's one on my big regrets if I'm honest - as although my windows look stunning - and do keep the cold out - I know they could have been better - but I was too late ! will deffo have triple glazed in my next home !!

I can't believe UK manufacturers can't make triple glazing if the rest of the world can. Have seriously never heard of hinge problems. All our windows have hinges on the sides. They swing completely inside out for easy cleaning. The kids open them. They are open at night even when it is windy. No problems whatsoever.

Thanks for your replies, yes the manufacturers / suppliers seem to like making it very complicated. Aside from the hinge comment they also like sparring whether U value is the best comparator or not. Aside from that does anyone have any recommendation as regards manufacturer or supplier.
