Packing boxes - how to close?

Serious question: when you make up packing boxes, do you fold 2 flaps across one way, seal then do the other 2 across the other way and deal again, or do you make them all overlap?

I think the latter, but then on one "half" of the seal, the box flap sort of lifts away from the masking tape.

Sorry about the crushingly tedious nature of this question.

I would do it the first way. I also then put a strip of tape across the joins on the inside bottom of the box.
