off street parking

how important is off street parking, and any ideas on what percentage of the house value could be added if off street parking is available. 2 identical houses, one with off street parking and gargae, the other with neither. The one with the parking is 7% more than the one without. Could potentially add it in distant future, but wouldnt have the funds for ages.

Very important, wouldn't consider a house that didn't have it or that I couldn't create very rapidly! No idea on percentages I'm afraid but I would be happy to pay a bit more to have the extra storage and parking from the word go.

I'd never buy a house without it. No idea on the value it would add though.

I would always go for off street parking if available.

If you have young children, then off-street parking is a massive help. It's a right pain lumping car seats, baby paraphernalia and shopping bags up and down the street every time you return home otherwise. And there's also the dilemma of whether to leave the kids in the car while you unload the shopping, or put the kids in the house unattended while you go back to the car for the bags.

Off street parking & garage would certainly be worth 7% to me.

Very important, but how much value it would add may depend on what parking is like in the area. If it's in a very quiet road near no shops or schools or other public amenities, and parking right outside is never going to be a problem, then it will make less of a difference than if it's in a busy town or village centre area, or with parking restrictions or other reason why parking right outside would be challenging and stressful..

We live in such an area, and if we didn't have an off-street space it would be pot luck at busy times whether I'd be able to park outside the house or a few minutes walk away.

Totally dependent on area. Pretty much irrelevant ( non-existent) in my part of West London, a deal breaker where my Pil live in the Midlands. Having said that I'd pay 7% for it if it was on offer!

We don't have our own parking and I'm fine with that but given the choice of two identical houses with only a 7% increase to get off road parking I would definitely go for that. It's just not an option round here and we are all about location, location, location.

Very important. Convenience, safety, better relations with neighbours. 7% for parking and garage seems reasonable to me.

Very important! I wouldn't buy a house without off-street, or at least allocated, parking.

We love a bigger house in the next road to ours - it has all the space we need inside but no parking whatsoever! It's only about 5 years old aswell - why are people building new 5 bedroom detached houses with no parking space, let alone a driveway?!

Seems crazy to me. As a result the house has been on the market for over a year.

Off road parking is a deal breaker for us. If I house didn't have it, I wouldn't even view it.

Dealbreaker for us. We'd not even view a house without it.

Where we are now, we only have a space in a private car park - however this is at least a guaranteed place. If you only have the street to park on, you could end up having to park on the next street if yours is full.

Depends entirely on the area. It was a must for us, or so I thought. We ended up finding a house without, but on a quiet no through road, and loads of on street parking. I am always able to park right by our gate and there's always room for visitors too.

A house a few roads away from us has been up for sale for about 2 years. They want half a million pounds for it. There's no off road parking, no parking outside as its over a junction and on a bus route. Madness.
