Velux windows and noise?

We sleep in a loft conversion that has one dormer window facing the garden. It is hot and stuffy and dark so we are thinking of installing two Velux windows on the sloping roof above the bed. Thing is our house is on a busy road with bus stop opposite and I am very noise sensitive. Does anyone know whether the Velux windows - when shut - would let in more noise than the roof does now? Roof fitter bloke says no, definitely not.

they sound like you are under siege when it rains

Ditto hail. Very cosy though and no more noise than a roof when shut, otherwise.

Not from the traffic (we live on a very buy road) but it's noisy when there's a heavy rainstorm.

I hadn't thought about rain and hail! Oh dear. Thanks for replies though, v helpful. Still not sure...

we have nine velux and one of them is a double velux and I think they are really good, though as other's have said when it rain's it is a little noisy, and when it snow's you do loose light until the snow has melted, but we don't notice the difference in the noise otherwise, lucky for me I like the sound of rain, mind you our velux's are not in the bedrooms but we do have two in the hallway ( we live in a bungalow), they are great in the summer as we leave them open in night and it's lovely and cool all day, we have blackout blinds on ours also.

As others have said, it's noisy in rain and hail and quite stuffy in this weather as we can't open them properly in the rain. If the vents are open, I can hear a lot but if closed, nothing.

I like the rain noise! One thing if you do get them is DEFinitely splesh out on integral thermal blinds: the room can roast on sunny days without them (and they dual as blackout blinds).
